Breaking news…….
Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge 2019 is honoured to introduce an exciting new team to the Elite team section this weekend – 40 Commando, Royal Marines. 40 Commando, based at Norton Manor, Taunton, are trained for worldwide crisis response as part of the U.K’s very high readiness amphibious force. Since formation in 1942, 40 Commando has served in every major British conflict, playing a pivotal role in several notable campaigns and operations.
Earlier this year, in an example of their work, the unit won the prestigious Firmin Sword of Peace, the military’s highest humanitarian award, for an unprecedented fourth time for providing life-saving aid, assistance and security to communities across the Caribbean in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017. The commandos were among the first people on the ground in Anguilla, the British Virgin and Turks and Caicos Islands. They delivered food and fresh water, set up makeshift medical centres, cleared roads, restored power supplies and helped local authorities maintain law and order.
We are delighted to welcome the 40 Commando team to the 2019 Charity Challenge. We are very proud of our Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge and your involvement will make it an even more special day. The team are raising money for the Royal Marines charity.
